Abi Hutson
HUDDERSFIELD BUSINESS SCHOOL GRADUATE
Hi, my name is Abi Hutson and I graduated from Huddersfield Business School in 2022. I am currently working at Morrisons as a Graduate Buyer. In this blog, I will delve into my career journey since graduating, highlighting the diverse array of roles I've undertaken so far.
Why is the transport and logistics industry an exciting industry to be part of?
Strategies and projects can very quickly change due to the global nature of the industry. If you are interested in current affairs and world trade, then this is a great industry for you to be involved in!
What job opportunities are available?
There are many opportunities within transport and logistics. For example, you could work for a 3rd party logistics provider, within a supply chain/logistics team in any company or go onto use your transferrable skills in a different industry.
What is your career journey so far?
I did my placement year at Arla Foods, a major dairy products company, in their supply planning team. This role involved ordering and managing the delivery of a number of imported dairy products. I continued working for Arla during my final year on a part-time basis within the customer logistics team – this role was focused on delivering cost-saving projects for the commercial and supply chain teams.
After I graduated, I joined the Kuehne + Nagel sales graduate scheme as I was interested in working for a 3rd party logistics provider. This role gave me great knowledge on how road, air and sea logistics are used within many industries such as healthcare, high tech, aerospace, and retail.

In September 2023, I joined the Morrisons two-year graduate development programme. I realised I loved the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry due to its fast-paced nature and interest in the grocery industry. My role is super interesting and the skills I have learnt from my logistics and supply chain degree plus experience in industry have really helped me in my current buying role.
What does your role cover on a day-to-day basis?
As a graduate buyer my role involves managing my own category, which is currently frozen pies and pastries, and ensuring growth for the supermarket. Daily, I get involved in sales, marketing, product development, finance, quality, and supply chain. A large part of each day is focused on ensuring great availability for customers and this involves working with our supply chain team and suppliers in a collaborative way. My background in supply chain and logistics massively helps with this.
