Frank Zagajewski

SENIOR PRACTITIONER – EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

Hello. I’m Frank Zagajewski, and I am a Senior Practitioner at Huddersfield Business School.

At Huddersfield Business School, we employ excellent researchers and teaching staff who care tremendously about our students’ learning experience. In this edition of ‘Meet the academics’ we shine a light on our Executive and Professional Development team with Frank Zagajewski, Senior Practitioner at Huddersfield Business School. Frank delves into his passion for teaching and the team's commitment to expanding access to higher education.

Please can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Frank Zagajewski, and I joined the University in January 2021, as a part-time lecturer teaching international marketing and public relations, in conjunction with the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) affiliation. I currently work in the apprenticeships team as a Senior Practitioner at Huddersfield Business School. I also have my own business development consultancy where I help organisations to identify their existing business weaknesses and challenges to determine relevant business improvements. A crucial role in any organisation’s growth or efficiency improvements to achieving success. Over the last 25 years, I’ve gained extensive knowledge in leading commercial, marketing, and operational roles around the world. So, I aim to bring all that experience into the theoretical learning I teach at the University, ensuring it aligns with the evidence based practical elements too.

What do you teach?

I teach on both the Level 5 Professional Manager and Level 7 Senior Leader apprenticeships. I teach a diverse range of modules including operational management, sales and marketing, resource management, procurement and supply chain, and corporate social responsibility. Which all tie into the commerciality of either running a business or a public sector organisation.

I’m also involved in the tripartite reviews, where the learner and their manager come together each quarter for us to analyse the learning and determine how this is conveyed into their current work-based activities. In addition, we review any personal support requirements to ensure we can recognise progress to allow for development of their learning during the programme by providing the tools to allow them to meet their career aspirations through a combination of maintaining a pursuit of knowledge coupled with work-based experience.

What do you wish people knew about Huddersfield Business School?

I wish people had an insight into our people here at Huddersfield Business School. I believe it’s our people that make the real difference in our teaching, and importantly that’s what affects a vast array of our learners who are wanting that quality and support of teaching to impact their future or existing career prospects. The Executive and Professional Development team at Huddersfield Business School are forward thinking and dynamic and we get behind a common goal which ultimately enhances our quality of teaching. We are driven to go the extra mile wherever necessary to either adapt or create new relevant styles of teaching for our diverse learners who commence our programme with contrasting skills and work-based experiences.

What's been a highlight during your time at Huddersfield Business School?

Teaching is incredibly fulfilling for me, and the highlights I experience come down to three key aspects. First, it's about being true to myself and embracing beliefs in things that truly matter. Second, it's the joy of realising that the work I'm doing is meaningful and worthwhile. Lastly, and most importantly, it's about making a positive impact on others. These highlights become real through the work I'm involved in, and understanding how it all comes together has been a significant revelation for me.

My most rewarding experience has been our commitment to expanding access to higher education, recognising the challenges some applicants face when returning to learning after a break. We embrace and leverage the wealth of work and life experiences our learners bring, utilising them as valuable assets to propel their career progression. Ultimately, an apprenticeship learner is not about a certain age category, but the personal stage in their respective careers, and this is where the dedicated and experienced team at Huddersfield Business School can step in to support their individual growth and professional development.
