Fatima Musa
BA Business and Human Resource Management student
Hi! I'm Fatima Musa and I am studying Business and Human Resource Management at Huddersfield Business School. I undertook a one-year work placement at Liberty Shared Services as a Project Change Coordinator.
In this blog, Fatima delves into her placement journey, offering insights into her typical day, advice for successful placement applications and interviews, and the growth of her personal development.
Can you tell us more about your role at Liberty Shared Services?
As a Project Change Coordinator at Liberty Shared Services (LSS), I support the delivery of a wide range of business and finance transformation projects while working closely with all areas of the project team. My role’s main responsibility is to support the project manager and project team with implementing and delivering systems, change management strategies and planning with a strong focus on user experience and business process change.
What does a typical day look like for you?
During the day I support the Project Manager and project team in project planning, resourcing, and support activities. My tasks range from updating project documentation including collating project information, RAAID log management (a project management tool), organising meetings, and preparing agendas and minutes, completing adhoc and administrative tasks, and communicating with stakeholders to contribute to a successful project delivery. Once a fortnight, I schedule time to focus and develop my IT and soft skills.

What are the key skills that you believe are important for a placement student to demonstrate throughout their application and interview process?
Excellent communication is vital throughout the application and interview process. Effectively exhibiting your ability to deliver clear and concise information will ensure the interviewer learns all the information they need about your personality and experience. This ties in with confidence, as having assertiveness in your answers and displaying engaged body language, you will reflect your interest in the role.
What value has your LSS placement brought to your personal development?
The LSS placement has contributed to the growth of my personal development in many ways. By providing me with the opportunity and insight into the ‘world of work’, I have improved on my time management and learnt to be productive with my time, I have established my network with a diverse group of individuals and progressed in proactivity by taking the initiative to get tasks done.
