John Shepherd, visiting professor at the University of Huddersfield, writes:

‘One of the senior thinkers and strategists in British politics with a deep knowledge of Labour history, Jon Cruddas is a popular speaker on the media and at public events in Britain. On 26 February 2017, he appeared on Mark Mardell’s World at One programme on BBC Radio Four to discuss how Labour can regain power after the party’s disastrous election defeat in 2015.

A former Labour Party staffer, in 2001 Jon Cruddas was elected MP for Dagenham, a rapidly changing working-class constituency, where he campaigned successfully against the BNP. In 2012, Ed Miliband invited him to join his Shadow Cabinet to head Labour’s Policy Review. His work brought fresh thinking about solving the major challenges facing working people in their lives and communities and how the conduct of politics could be changed in Britain. Currently, Jon Cruddas remains directly active in a number of important new initiatives on Labour’s future and the revival of social democracy in Britain.’
