In this article the International Office staff explain how to get a Student Visa and a CAS.
What is a CAS?
A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is a unique code for you, it is confirmation that the University has agreed to be your Educational Sponsor. You need a CAS to apply for a Student Visa.
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) use this to confirm that you are a genuine international student, the code allows the UKVI to find out where you are studying, your course and some of your personal details (name, nationality, passport number, UK address).
How to get a CAS
Before the CAS is issues there are a few steps.
- Firstly you must apply to the University and receive an offer.
- Accept the offer in your student portal, a link and details will be emailed.
- Once accepted applicants must then meet all the conditions of the offer before the deadline (details in the offer letter and portal).
- When all conditions are met the University will send out a A CAS-check email the applicant must check the details and reply, it is very important that all the information in the CAS is correct.
- The University of Huddersfield will issue the CAS.
When you have the CAS you can then apply for a Student Visa.

Dependants
International students travelling to the UK will no longer be able to bring dependants on their student visa, unless they are studying a research postgraduate programme.
Post-study visa
No changes have been made to the two-year post study work visa/Graduate Route visa and it remains a popular option for international students.
The UK’s Graduate Route welcomes international students to apply to stay in the UK and work, or look for work, upon graduation without the need to be sponsored by an employer.
International students who have successfully completed an undergraduate or master’s degree can apply to stay in the UK for up to two years after their studies. PhD graduates can apply to stay for up to three years.
