Adeena Ahmed

Early years BA (Hons) Graduate

Adeena Ahmed studied Early Years BA (Hons) from September 2019 - May 2022. Adeena achieved her degree in Early years BA (Hons) Degree and has now landed an opportunity to go into a PGCE SCITT next academic year. Here more from Adeena's journey below.

I studied Early Years BA (Hons). I had just completed my A levels before I started university. I wanted to become a teacher so I chose this course as I found that I could do a PGCE after to get my QTS and become a primary school teacher.

I wanted to become a primary school teacher. I always thought I would go down the university led PGCE route but over time I found that I rather take a school centred approach. I still want to become a primary school teacher but I found that I could do other things like go into private nurseries.

I tried to stay positive by looking back at the work I had already done in past modules which helped me realise that if I got through that I can get through whatever I was facing. I also had some good friends which helped. The advice I would give is first take a step back, find out what you want to do, make a plan and then just do it. Even if it’s not perfect it’s still something which you can build upon and make better. I would also recommend the having a academic skills tutorial or talk to your personal tutor as they can help you and give you a bit of perspective.

Try and enjoy your time here even with all the stress because one day it will all be worth it. Exploring the campus is something I regret not doing in my first year so maybe do that.

In the future I would like to complete my degree and get a first and then complete my PGCE. I hope I can find a good job that will suit me in a primary school and maybe even look at some opportunities abroad.
