What course did you study? What did you do before university and why were you attracted to your course?
I studied Early Years BA (Hons). I had just completed my A levels before I started university. I wanted to become a teacher so I chose this course as I found that I could do a PGCE after to get my QTS and become a primary school teacher.

What were your thoughts on your career/business direction when you originally joined your course? Can you describe how your thinking and ideas evolved over time? What influenced this?
I wanted to become a primary school teacher. I always thought I would go down the university led PGCE route but over time I found that I rather take a school centred approach. I still want to become a primary school teacher but I found that I could do other things like go into private nurseries.

How did you manage to stay positive and motivated when you have faced challenges? What advice would you give to our students if they were in this position?
I tried to stay positive by looking back at the work I had already done in past modules which helped me realise that if I got through that I can get through whatever I was facing. I also had some good friends which helped. The advice I would give is first take a step back, find out what you want to do, make a plan and then just do it. Even if it’s not perfect it’s still something which you can build upon and make better. I would also recommend the having a academic skills tutorial or talk to your personal tutor as they can help you and give you a bit of perspective.

What advice would you give your current and future peers?
Try and enjoy your time here even with all the stress because one day it will all be worth it. Exploring the campus is something I regret not doing in my first year so maybe do that.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future I would like to complete my degree and get a first and then complete my PGCE. I hope I can find a good job that will suit me in a primary school and maybe even look at some opportunities abroad.
