Many students say that the best way to find out if a university is the right choice for you, is to visit it!
Open Days are a helpful opportunity to find out more information about the university and course you are interested in enrolling in.
Before I selected the University of Huddersfield as my first-choice, I attended an Open Day which allowed me to come to my final decision.
During the Huddersfield Open Day, I was given the chance to take a guided tour of the campus - this allowed me to see some of the university’s most important elements, which include the six-floor library, the university’s job centre, and the professionally equipped radio studios - which are invaluable for my chosen degree.
I was also able to get a feel of the accommodation on offer at the University of Huddersfield, as student halls such as DIGS Student’s Storthes Hall offered tours, meaning visitors could get an understanding of where they would like to live if they opted to study in Huddersfield.
Another important element of Open Days is how they offer the chance to meet some of your potential lecturers. This is highly valuable because they are the experts in the subject area you are interested in studying and they can explain the course in much better detail and depth than a university prospectus or website.
At the Huddersfield Open Day I came to, prospective students were given a talk which covered the fundamentals of the course they were interested in. We could also ask any questions and become familiar with the unique teaching structure that university offers.
On top of all of this, Open Days present the chance to talk to those already enrolled in the course you are interested in allowing you to get a student’s perspective.
Whilst going on an Open Day, you can also get a taste of the town or city that the university is located in. This is really important because you will be making this place home over the next three to four years!

Huddersfield's train station has one particular employee who I'm fond of, Felix... the railway cat. Also, I've no doubt that my name has the most unique spelling.
