Thomas Enes Bayar
Master’s Graduate in International Business
Hi, my name is Thomas Enes Bayar, and I’m from Germany. I graduated with an MSc in International Business in September 2024.
Studying a Postgraduate degree is a valuable step toward unlocking new career opportunities, deepening your subject knowledge, and gaining the skills needed to stand out in today’s competitive global job market. Whether you’re continuing straight from undergraduate study or returning to education to advance your career or explore new goals, the University of Huddersfield offers a range of flexible postgraduate study options.
In this blog, Thomas shares how the MSc International Business not only developed his expertise in global markets, cultural intelligence, and consultancy, but also how it sparked lasting personal growth. From gaining key insights during his favourite module, The Global Professional, to securing a graduate role in Global Transaction Banking at a prestigious Frankfurt-based bank, his story highlights the real-world value of a postgraduate qualification at Huddersfield.
Which module had the biggest impact on you, and why?
My favourite module was The Global Professional. Through active engagement, I gained valuable insights into different cultures and human behaviours - essential skills in today’s globalised business world, where cultural barriers are common but can often be overcome with knowledge and empathy.
What had the greatest impact, however, was the module’s unconventional approach. It not only deepened my understanding of others but, more importantly, taught me a great deal about myself. This reflective self-awareness has been immensely valuable in both my personal and professional development.
How does an MSc in International Business prepare you for success in a global career?
The MSc in International Business equipped me with essential skills for today’s globalised business world. I learnt how to analyse international markets, assess competition and understand global trends.
The course also offered opportunities for specialisation. For example, during the Consultancy Project, I worked on a real-world business challenge that enhanced my analytical, critical, and problem-solving skills, while providing invaluable insights into the industry. This project was one of the most impactful parts of my postgraduate journey. My group worked with Morgan Sindall Construction, a multi-billion-pound company, to analyse their current waste management processes and propose actionable solutions for waste reduction. The experience offered a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a large organisation and made me feel like I was contributing to real-world issues such as CO₂ emissions and sustainability. It also gave me practical insight into how consultancy works and has become a strong talking point in interviews, as employers truly value hands-on experience.
One of the most transformative aspects of the course was developing cultural intelligence. Understanding and navigating cultural differences, combined with reflective thinking, enabled me to communicate more effectively and build meaningful relationships across diverse cultural settings".

What support were you provided with whilst studying at the University of Huddersfield?
Throughout my international journey, I received constructive feedback and support from staff at the University of Huddersfield. This not only helped me improve my academic work but also provided reassurance during moments of anxiety and self-doubt.
One of the most valuable parts of my experience was the support and guidance I received through my mentorship with Dr Qiu Wang, the Course Leader for the MSc in International Business. My first lecture was delivered by Qiu, whose professional background and approachable nature immediately stood out. After a great conversation, he encouraged me to become the academic representative for our course, a role I gladly took on. This led to a genuine mentorship and friendship. I always felt comfortable seeking his feedback, advice, or simply having a chat. Even after graduation, Qiu remained a guiding figure, offering career advice that continues to shape my professional path today - all because I took the initiative to connect with him.
How has studying abroad shaped your career opportunities and personal development?
Since graduating from the University of Huddersfield, I’ve participated in several interviews where my UK Master’s experience was praised - especially my strong English communication skills and involvement in the University’s extracurricular activities.
Most recently, I was offered a graduate trainee position at a prestigious bank in Frankfurt. This opportunity would not have been possible without the knowledge, credentials, and international exposure I gained at Huddersfield.
On a personal level, studying abroad helped me become more resilient, self-aware, and mature. While the experience brought its share of challenges, these were far outweighed by the unforgettable memories and the personal growth I achieved.

What are your career aspirations?
I’ve recently been offered a Graduate Trainee position in Global Transaction Banking at a prestigious bank in Frankfurt which is a dream come true. I look forward to building a successful international career, applying what I’ve learned, and continuing to grow professionally in a dynamic, global environment.
