MSc in Management with Entrepreneurship in 2021
Hi! My name’s Marija Varzinska, and I completed my MSc in Management with Entrepreneurship in 2021. I now work as an Account Manager at Tribal Impact Ltd.
In 2019 I decided to study for a Master’s in Management. I wanted to deepen my knowledge of business management, especially from an entrepreneurial perspective. I was drawn to the University of Huddersfield because of the positive experience I had while earning my bachelor's degree in journalism. During my studies, I had the opportunity to connect with people from diverse cultures, learn from experienced academics, and engage in practical applications. I also knew that Huddersfield has a dynamic and continuously developing environment, reinforcing my decision that it was the ideal place to further my education. In this blog, I explore what I enjoyed most about studying a postgraduate management qualification, and how it has been instrumental in my career progression.
1) The course content was engaging and well-structured
The course structure offered a well-balanced combination of theory and practical application. The group activities during the seminars were also beneficial, allowing us to collaborate and digest the material more interactively and engagingly. We learnt how to work as a team and were allowed to develop our leadership skills.
2) The teaching quality was excellent
The quality of teaching at the University of Huddersfield was excellent. Academics didn’t just impart theoretical knowledge; they also integrated real-world business experience into their teaching, offering invaluable insights. This blend of practical experience with a solid academic foundation made the course and the University exceptional choices.
My advice to future students is to ask questions. Take full advantage of the academics as they are there to support you, and their knowledge and experience are invaluable. The more effort you put in, the more you’ll get out of the course. Come prepared, stay curious, and be eager to learn.
3) The breadth and content of the course was invaluable
I wanted to deepen my knowledge of business management by exploring various leadership styles and key aspects of business while learning how successful companies implement these principles. Although you can study these topics independently, the insight gained from experienced lecturers made a world of difference. The course not only enhanced my confidence and autonomy in decision-making but also fuelled my curiosity, making me a more self-assured and inquisitive professional.
4) The course gave me the skills and confidence needed to advance in my career
Completing the course positively impacted my career development, helping me build the skills and confidence needed to advance. Having already gained a few years of real-world experience before enrolling, I approached it with a different mindset than during my undergraduate studies. The course reinforced the importance of staying curious. Constantly questioning things leads to improvement, both in academia and the professional world. I valued the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals, which played a key role in my professional growth.
5) Since completing the MSc I’ve had several career highlights
I've been fortunate to have several highlights in my career so far. One of the most exciting is working for a dynamic startup where I can apply my knowledge, innovate, and thrive in an environment that values my curiosity and fresh ideas. I've had the opportunity to travel for events and meet clients globally, which has expanded both my professional network and my horizons. Additionally, the flexibility of remote work has allowed me to balance my career with family life, enabling me to travel while maintaining my work commitments, which I’ve always aspired to achieve.
In conclusion, pursuing a Master’s in Management at the University of Huddersfield has been a transformative experience. The engaging course content, excellent teaching quality, and diverse environment enriched my learning and boosted my career. The practical insights and confidence gained led to a promotion and several career highlights, including working for a dynamic startup and expanding my professional network globally. For future students, my advice is to stay curious, ask questions, and make the most of the resources available at Huddersfield.
