MSc Digital Marketing

My experience as an undergraduate student at the University of Huddersfield was truly amazing. The lecturers, modules, and facilities were top-notch, and it inspired me to pursue further studies at the same university. In this blog, I want to share some of my favourite things about Huddersfield and why I decided to stay here for my Master’s degree.

Teaching

One of the things that really stood out to me was the quality of teaching at Huddersfield. The lecturers are incredibly knowledgeable and are always able to answer my questions or point me in the right direction. Plus, with the University ranking in the top three in England for the proportion of staff holding doctorates, I’m sure I’m learning from the best. The facilities are fantastic and the support continues even after graduation!

Flexible study

Another thing I love at Huddersfield is the flexibility of the learning experience. I had a high level of control over my learning, which allowed me to adapt my learning pathway in a way that suited my interests and abilities. This encouraged me to take personal responsibility for my own studies and achieve more without feeling overwhelmed or pressured. For example, the MSc Digital Marketing course that I studied was taught 50/50 online and on-campus, which provided me with a high level of flexibility, and at the same time ensured I maintained social connections, development and networking opportunities, as well as access to campus and facilities.

Opportunities

One of the biggest opportunities I had at Huddersfield was the chance to study for a Master's degree. But of course, Huddersfield isn’t only about studying! There are so many opportunities for personal and professional development, from sport clubs and various societies to volunteering and work experience. I became the president of the PG Marketing Society, which was a great chance to gain experience, enhance my skills, and socialise with other students within my course and across the University.

During my Master's program, I realised that my personal growth isn’t solely attributed to the formal curriculum but also the interactions I had with my teachers, peers, and through various extracurricular activities. I became more professional, confident and focused.

Campus location

The campus is located near the town centre, which makes traveling uncomplicated. Everything is in walking distance, so it’s easy to take advantage of everything that Huddersfield has to offer. The University has fantastic facilities tailored for every course and the working canal that runs through the heart of the campus provides an amazing view throughout the year.

The University also organises trips for students, and I had a chance to visit the Museum of Brands and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The extra activities that the University plans for students are not only educational but also enjoyable and provide a chance to socialise with peers and create wonderful memories of time studying at Huddersfield.

Support and progression

Studying at Huddersfield Business School was phenomenal. Alongside the support that the School had in place and the excellent teaching team, the Business School offered many opportunities to gain work experience with a wide range of organisations, including private, public, and voluntary sectors. For example, in the Contemporary Consumer Engagement assignment, I was asked to work with a confectionery brand that launched in the UK. The Business School also hosted the Academy of Marketing Conference, which was an excellent opportunity to volunteer and meet academics from many different backgrounds and experiences in the field.

On my first day I remember, being nervous and anxious, probably more so than other students in my position as they demonstrated a sense of familiarity, a sense of belonging. Even before I got to the classroom, all it took was asking someone (who turned out to be in my class, so that was a bonus!) for directions – and that sense of belonging was borrowed and shared. The whole process just felt smoother and by the end of the first day, you do get to know your small group of classmates quite well and are set on a direct course that will one day lead you to a successful career path.
