Marketing and Event Studies MSc
Hello, I’m Marasha. I’m a postgraduate student in Marketing with Event studies. I come from Kuwait and my nationality is Portuguese. I have an interest in dancing and writing. I love hosting and volunteering at events. I am always happy to meet new people and make new friends from all over the world.
Rise and shine Sleeping Beauty:
As practical as organising an event sounds, a lot of thought goes into it. Event Management is a mixed course of practical experience and theory. Usually my day starts at 7am after snoozing the alarm five times, just like any other student. Knowing I have a busy day ahead, I need a strong cup of black coffee to fuel myself before I leave the house – and so my day starts by saying ‘Hocus Pocus may this coffee help me focus!’

And today’s events shall begin:
Most of my lectures start at 9.15am. Two of my other course mates meet with me in the morning and we always walk together to class. In my final year I’m lucky to have Mondays off. My lectures include various modules linked to Events Management like global strategy, festivals and events, creativity and innovation, and even environmental management. While the course includes practical modules like live event, wedding planning, design, etc., the other modules teach us how an event organisation can function and what attributes need to be considered to effectively work in an events firm.

Cinderella mode on:
All my lectures are 2 hours long with a 10 minute break in between. After finishing my lectures, I usually go in to town to buy something if needed, otherwise I head straight home. I give myself an hour break to have lunch, do some laundry and some cleaning.

Rapunzel let down her books:
Just like any other course, EVM students also spend most of their time in the library. However, I have always been a student who likes to listen to music out loud and study in the kitchen – there goes my secret. I usually loan the books I need from the library and come back home to study. I prefer multi-tasking while doing my assignments and reports, hence why I sit in the kitchen and listen to music whilst typing away at my projects. After every hour I either make myself a milkshake, some mint tea to sip on or simply go down to play with Alfie (the pet dog that visits my accommodation). The key to submitting a good well written assignment is time management. That is why I always plan out my day in advance and allocate time slots to balance out my day and include all my activities.

All work and no play, makes me a dull girl:
I prefer having a chilled evening by watching a documentary, meeting my friends or baking something. Sometimes I even attend events that happen on campus. Before going to bed I like to do some reading for the next day’s lecture. Once I’m done reading I make it a habit to write in my diary every night and then go to sleep ready to do it all again tomorrow.
