Ayushi Dhangar
Psychology BSc(Hons)
Hi everyone! I'm Ayushi, a first year Psychology BSc(Hons) student, I commute to University and this is a day in my life and what a typical Monday is like for me.
What my day looks like
As a first-year Psychology student, I have 10 contact hours per week, which include lectures, seminars, and practicals. I commute to University every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and occasionally go in on Wednesdays and Fridays if needed.
I am going to talk about what my typical Monday looks like:
7am - 9am
I always try to get to University for 9am, even if I don’t have a 9am start. I catch the 7.57am train from Dewsbury train station, which takes me about 10 minutes as a direct train, and then a 10-minute walk to University.
I usually start my day off with a mocha from the University Starbucks, but I sometimes go to Greggs in Kingsgate and pick up a mocha. After grabbing a coffee, I usually meet up friends then around 9am-ish, I go to the library to catch up on my notes and assignments before my lectures and practicals.

9am - 12pm
My first lecture of the day isn’t until 1pm so it gives me a lot of time to get some work done. I sometimes sit in the Oastler building and get work done for a change of scenery.
I prefer going the library as it has five floors to study from, each floor has silent study areas and there is one floor which is silent-only.
In the library you can book out group study rooms, which are helpful if you have group projects or group presentations due. There is also a lot of support and facilities available, such as the IT point and laptops you can loan.
I usually get a lot of work done as I stay in the library till 12 and then grab some lunch from Student Central.

12pm - 1pm
The University has a lot of options for lunch, such as a meal deal from the Students’ Union shop; International Kitchen has a different menu every day; you can buy food from the Starbucks and Costa cafés dotted around campus; and there’s a stand opposite the International Kitchen that serves pizza, wedges, pasta, and garlic bread.
There are also a lot of places to eat in town that are close to university, there's quite a few fast-food chains as well as smaller, local businesses.
1pm - 4pm
After lunch I head to my first lecture about child development in the Charles Sikes building. Lectures usually start on the hour or five past the hour and take between 45 and 50 minutes. Straight after my child development lecture, I have another lecture in the Oastler building at 2pm.
On Mondays, I have a lecture and practical in Quantitative Research Methods. Straight after the lecture at 3pm, I head over to the Ramsden building, where my quantitative practical takes place. In this, we consolidate our learning based on the previous lecture, whilst the tutor walks around helping everyone.

4pm onwards
After the practical, I go to the train station and catch the 4.19pm train to Dewsbury get home. Once I’m home, I take a break, eat and shower and catch up on any tv series I’m watching and then watch back the lectures I had that day and make my notes.
That is what a typical Monday looks like for me.
