Giang Ha
International Marketing student
My name is Giang Ha and I am from Viet Nam (which is 10,027 km far from the UK). Currently, I am pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. My degree is three-year course with an additional year on placement.
Why Huddersfield?
You may wonder why I decided to study in England and at the University of Huddersfield to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.
When I finished high school and received my university entrance examination results, I was looking for an opportunity to study abroad, and the UK was my top destination. England was my dream country of choice for study, I started looking for universities in England.
I was recommended by an agency called UKISC that University of Huddersfield offered scholarships for international students and the teaching staff at the University were well-qualified. I was impressed by the University’s reputation and started looking for information on the University website. I discovered more about the teaching quality, support from staff, student activities, placement opportunities and employment opportunities after graduation. The more I got to know the University, the more I was interested in becoming a student there. Therefore, I made the decision to apply to the University of Huddersfield.

My studies
When I first arrived, I studied the International Year One at the International Study Centre (ISC) in Huddersfield. My course included 5 modules: Marketing, Academic Skills, Financial Environment, Organisational Environment, and Organisational Behaviours. Each module provided me with the primary background about business and more importantly the academic skills that helped me so much with all of my assignments in the first year of my degree. The year spent studying at the ISC was an amazing year for me. I made new friends from different countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, China, India, Pakistan, Egypt, and many more
Activities outside of my degree
In addition to studying for my degree, I applied for different roles and participated in a range of activities held on campus. My first role was to act as a representative for my class at the ISC, attending different meetings with tutors and staff, which helped me create a close bond with everyone. I was given an opportunity to attend a meeting in London with students from different International Study Centres in the UK. I also worked as Student Events Champion at the International Office. Since studying for my Marketing degree at the University, I continued to work as Student Ambassador for the Business School, which has enabled me to interact more with my Marketing lecturers and managers in the Business School.

I have attended different events on campus such as Global Food Events, Vietnamese Tet events, and supported Alan Tobi, the International Student Experience Manager at the University of Huddersfield in planning and hosting events for students across the University.
I have had many beautiful memories here. I had my first interview for the role Student Ambassador, had my first working shift and attended different business guest talks.
If you’re interested in applying to the University, I would recommend that you take a look at the University website, so you can know and understand the University and the course options.
