MSC MARKETING WITH EVENT STUDIES
Hello and welcome to my blog about the support available to postgraduate students. If you choose to study your postgraduate course at Huddersfield, you will always have a range of different support services to help you throughout your postgraduate journey.
Hello, I hope you enjoyed my previous blog about how I started my postgraduate journey. In this blog I will tell you about some of the support services available to postgraduate students at the University of Huddersfield, including the library, academic staff, careers, wellbeing and disability services and the Students' Union.
Library services
Let’s start with the main worry of being a PG student - good quality assignments and course work! Many PG students feel pressure while writing their essays or reports. The main reasons being correct structure and referencing. The library services at the university can help students learn how to structure and reference their work properly to avoid any plagiarism issues while submitting. The library entrance is located on level 4 of the Schwann building and there is always help available at the front desk.

Academic support
With PG courses being quite intense every student gets appointed a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT). This personal tutor is like a director and helps with any academic difficulties you may face. Your PAT may email you every two months to schedule a meeting and have a general discussion about your progress.
Besides the PAT, every PG student is appointed a supervisor to help and guide you with your final project. The lecturers at the University are very friendly and supportive.
If for any reason you feel your PAT or supervisor is not helpful, you can always email your other lecturers and schedule a meeting to discuss any issues you may have.

Careers and Employability
If you are a student, like me, who has anxiety about working even before completing your degree, then this is the perfect service for you. The Careers and Employability Service is located on the 4th floor of the Student Central building and you can book an appointment with them. They help students with CVs, recruitments events, information and literature on career options, interviews and so on. The Job Shop is the University’s’ own website where they advertise graduate schemes, direct entry roles and graduate internships, along with volunteering opportunities to strengthen your CV.

Wellbeing and Disability services
Sometimes it can be stressful studying a PG course, especially during the time of heavy deadlines. The Wellbeing and Disability Service is situated on level 4 of the Student Central building. It is a safe space that helps students look after their personal wellbeing and mental health by helping them deal with different issues like stress and anxiety caused by work, relationships or responsibilities. There is even a free 24/7 anonymous peer and professional online service called the Big White Wall for students dealing with a range of issues, such as tension, insomnia or feeling low. These services are carried out by trained counsellors.
The Students’ Union
The Students’ Union (SU) is a body that works for the University but is completely independent. They are located on level 5 of the Student Central building. They have created a postgraduate research (PGR) hub that includes all services open to students to join and encourage them to take part in different campaigns and programmes. They run a yearly calendar particularly with PG targeted events. There is a PG society run by the SU that is free to join for all PG students to make their journey more connected, social and accessible by providing the right information and direction.
