Master's in Education (Teaching and Learning)

Hi, I’m Neha and I’m a postgraduate student from India, and I’m studying for a Master’s Degree in Education. In this blog I will share why I love being involved in global campus events and why I think you should come along!

The University of Huddersfield is home to students from a diverse range of cultures. The University takes pride in its diversity, and they make all possible efforts to see that every student feels at home during their time at Huddersfield. One of the ways that this is done is by organising global campus events throughout the year.

One such global campus event is the Global Food and Culture Festival, which takes place twice a year. The Global Food and Culture Festival is an opportunity for students to taste various cuisines from different countries around the world, and to experience different cultures through live performances staged by the many global societies at the University. Despite the pandemic Global Week 2021 will be online.

Attending the event makes world feel like a smaller place, as it gives an opportunity for every country to represent their food and culture and share it with other students.

The best parts of the evening, in my opinion, is the exchange of culture, the time spent tasting different delicacies across the globe, the heartwarming performances and not to forget the bonding of students across different countries.

I remember the first time I attended the festival, I hardly knew anyone; but now I have connections with students from different countries and I learn so much from them every day.

Being a member of global societies and taking part in the events they host has helped me meet so many new friends.

No matter which part of the world you are from, you can join the different global societies. Being involved in global societies helps you find a family away from home and there is no more loneliness to deal with as you get friends for life.

I am personally part of many global societies including the Indian and Pakistan societies and attend every event that is organised to socialise and build networks.

Getting involved in global societies and campus events has been so rewarding, as I have so many memories to cherish, so many good people who have taught me new things and expanded my network.

I would highly recommend being a part of the global societies. Some memories are life-long and are cherished forever.

Create everlasting memories at the University by getting involved!

I have really enjoyed being a member of a Global Student Society, and would recommend it to all students at the University.
