What do I do in my spare time?

I like walking and enjoying the green landscape around Huddersfield and the Yorkshire area. The landscape around Huddersfield reminds me of the hills and fields that surround the Middlesbrough area which is where I am from. My friends and I went up to Castle Hill a few times during first year to see the views and it was a great time to completely relax. The surrounding area was a big seller for me when choosing Huddersfield, I am an outdoors lover, and I work outside a lot of the time so I needed somewhere with places to sit and relax with lovely scenery. I am actually sat writing this blog in the sun at Greenhead park because I find it a lovely place to work.

What do your family think of Yorkshire when they visit?

My family visit to see my shows so when they do come we try and make the most of the surroundings and the parks especially! Greenhead Park and Beaumont Park are both lovely areas to go and spend a day in the good weather (when it decides to show up). Greenhead park has big open field areas to play with a ball or Frisbee while Beaumont park is more closed in. Beaumont Park is second on Trip Advisor for things you need to do in Huddersfield, the amazing twist and turns of the hill allow you to get lost in an area of sheer beauty. The windy paths and beautiful landscape help to hide some of the park’s key features; a castle wall and gate, a mini waterfall leading into a gorgeous pond, stone huts in the side of the rock face as well as many other amazing sights. Beaumont park is a great place to go for an escape to a different world.

What do you love about living in Yorkshire?

I love the area, but also the easy access to other neighbouring cities such as Leeds and Manchester, less than an hour from Manchester and around 20 minutes to get to Leeds means days and nights out are never too far away.

How happy are you with your choice to study in Yorkshire?

I am very happy with my choice, the combination of beautiful landscapes and close by big cities is the perfect balance of both areas each with their own benefits. I would definitely recommend Yorkshire as a place to study because of the variety you can find in such a small distance. No matter what you are looking for I can almost guarantee you can find it in Yorkshire.

How can people find out more about the area?

I have read the Lonely Planet ‘Explore Huddersfield - A Guide for Students’ booklet and it hits the nail on the head. It talks about the Victorian architecture and the restaurants, bars and clubs that make Huddersfield come alive and I completely agree. It shows the many awards the University has won because of its incredible standards, it shows the highlights, nightlife, culture and sport of the town as well as some amazing excursion trips for you to have a go at. Check out this Lonely Planet Guide to Huddersfield:

Thank you for reading my piece on why I chose to study in Yorkshire and I hope you can share some of my love for this beautiful area.
