Air Transport and Logistics Management BSc(Hons) - Third Year

Hi, I'm Hongzhang from China. I am a final year Air Transport and Logistics Management student. I am passionate about consulting, accounting, banking, and supply chain management. I hope my experience will provide you with some insights into university life!

Hi, I'm Hongzhang Guo, I'm currently in my final year and in this blog I would like to share my exam tips with you.

I think the exam period is definitely a stressful time for most of us. I think it’s really important for us to be prepared physically and mentally for our upcoming exams so we can get the best results possible.

I have some tips that I would like to share with you, these are the methods I personally use during exam season and I find them very useful, so maybe you will benefit from them as well.

1. Revision

First, of course, is to review the knowledge you have learned. It’s important to use all the material available. For example, I usually start with Brightspace and I always make sure that I have reviewed all the slides the lecturer uploaded because I think slides include the most valuable knowledge and they are more likely to appear in the actual exam as well.

Apart from that, I think you could also go to the library and read some of the relevant literature as well. I think some extra reading is always helpful for your exam, especially if you have essay style questions.

Also, I think it‘s important that you use the reading list that lecturers give you as well. Usually, the lecturer will give you very good material, read it before the exam to help you have a better idea of the module.

2. Access external help

Our university also offers many different types of services to help you with exam preparation as well. For example, I usually go to the lecturers if I have any questions, I think going to your lecturer is usually the best way to resolve your problem as they have the best knowledge of the modules. From my personal experience, all the lecturers are very helpful and nice. They always help me with whatever questions I have. However, it's best to be prepared before you go to them for help so you can be efficient and get the most out of their time.

Apart from help from lecturers, our university library also offers academic services to help students to improve their academic writing skills. This could be really helpful for your exams and they offer an appointment service so it‘s really convenient for students to access the service when they need it.

3. Places to study

It‘s also important that we find a space that can maximize our productivity as well. Personally, I like to go to the library to study, because I think the library is quiet and really helps me to focus. However, I sometimes study at home as well as it could save me time going to and from campus. You can try different places and see what method is the best for you.

You could study with friends if you think that works better for you. You can also book a study room at the library so you and your friends can study in a private space together. I think that's a really good way to study because you can ask each other questions and help each other out.

4. Mentally prepare for the exam

Mental health is also a very important part of exam preparation. I understand that you may feel anxious and nervous before an exam. That’s very common and our university offers well-being services to help you with that. If you have anxiety issues or any well-being issues before exams, you can book an appointment with the university well-being team. They will provide you with professional advice and help you to be mentally prepared for your exam. I find it very useful to talk to them and it really helps me to feel less anxious.

Overall, I think when it comes to exams, we really have to calm down and take it easy. Sometimes it‘s not about how many revision sessions we have but how much confidence we have in ourselves. Are you mentally prepared for the exam? because if so you are more likely to perform your best.

In the end, I also would like to say that different people have different methods for exam preparation, so it’s really important that you find a method that suits you the best.
