Ruky Yussuf

BSc(hons) Business Economics Graduate

Ruky Yussuf is a former University of Huddersfield student who recently graduated with a first-class honours in Business Economics. She recently returned to the University to chat about her experiences of being a student here and how the University is continuing to support her in her career.

Alumna Ruky Yussuf came to the UK as an asylum seeker aged 14. Despite excelling in her studies, she was told that she was not eligible for funding for university due to her refugee status. However, after meeting Professor Bob Cryan (University of Huddersfield Vice-Chancellor) whilst delivering a talk at an education forum at Buckingham Palace, she was made aware of the support available at Huddersfield. After speaking to the University about her circumstances Ruky received a scholarship to fund her studies.

In this vlog, Ruky discusses the support she received as a student, from both the University and its Business School and how this empowered her to achieve her full potential.

Student Support at the University of Huddersfield

When Ruky graduated with a first-class honours degree in BSc (Hons) Business Economics in 2021, she was able to apply the skills gained on her course in her career. She is now running her own online tutoring programme which supports students learning English language and mathematics skills. As a University of Huddersfield graduate, she has access to careers advice for life and continues to receive support through our mentoring service.
